The Effects of Interpersonal Relation and Communication Skills of Occupational Therapists on Their Work Stress

Abstract
Objective: This study was performed to investigate the effects of interpersonal relation and communication skills of occupational therapists on their work stress.

Methods: The study was undertaken with occupational therapists from general hospitals and medical rehabilitation centers in Daegu, and analysed 115 survey sheets that were collected through mailing.

Results: The relations of their ages and inappropriate reward in lower area of work stress classifications showed a meaningful differences. The difference was seen at the rest of the lower areas except the overall level of work stress depending on the therapists` clinical careers and the conflicts of their professions. Interpersonal relation indicated a valid negative correlation in overall level and lower area that are. The study found no important correlation between communication skills and work stress, but interpersonal relation and communication skills showed a relevant correlation.

Conclusion: It is highly required that developing programs and apply for occupational therapists to improving their interpersonal relation and communication skills. With the efforts for improving therapists` social skills, they will be able to release their work stress easier so that they will perform effectively their tasks while keeping a good relationship with patients and guardians, colleagues and doctors.
